Show and Tell

I finally got my Silhouette SD, and I've been spending all my free time trying to be creative (which is difficult for me haha).  I guess you could say that I'm a bit obsessed.  Now comes the fun part, I get to show you all of the pretty things I've made!

All of these items are available for sale.  Somehow I managed to set up an online shop so that you can place an order online and pay through PayPal.  (I guess that programming class did pay off haha.)  If you click on the "Shop" tab at the top of the page, it will take you to my online shop.  Keep in mind that I did this myself, so some of the links aren't working yet.  But, hopefully I'll get everything straightened out in the next couple of days.  If you see something you want and can't order it online, then just email me at jjfoley4ua@gmail.com.

I will keep adding items from time to time, but let me know if there is something you want personalized that I don't have.  I'm always open to good ideas.  I would also be happy to add vinyl to something you already have.

Ending of an Era and the Turning of a Page

I think the best way to start this post is with a quote from a great movie.  "Beginnings are scary.  Endings are usually sad, but it's what is in the middle that counts.  So when you find yourself at the beginning, just give hope a chance to float up.  And it will." - Hope Floats

I received my diploma in the mail this weekend, and it finally hit me that I really am finished with the University of Alabama.  I've been living at home since April, and I moved all of my stuff out of my apartment in June.  I've moved every summer, so I guess I still had the mindset that I was just home for the summer and would be moving back in August.  So, now that I've finally realized that Tuscaloosa is no longer my home, I'm really sad.  I love Tuscaloosa, and I loved my four years at the University.  I'm just really disappointed that it came to such an abrupt end.  Unlike most students graduating in May, I never got the chance to have one last hoorah with my friends. :(

Here's another quote for you: "We must be willing to let go of the life we planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." - Joseph Campbell

This quote pretty much sums up my life right now.  I'm a big planner, and I had planned out exactly what I would do after graduation.  I was going to stay in Tuscaloosa, keep my job on campus, spend all summer looking for an accounting job, and move to Montgomery when my lease was up.  Then April 27th happened, and my world was flipped upside down.  One day I was a student living in Tuscaloosa and the next I wasn't.  My apartment wasn't damaged, so I could've gone back.  But, the thought of seeing all the destruction every day made me sick to my stomach.  (My mom told me that I should blog about exactly what happened that day, so I will try to do that one of these days).  So, instead I just stayed in Opp, and I'm working part time as a math tudor.  I've decided that I want to teach math, so I guess I will be starting my masters pretty soon.

You know that saying, "Man plans, God laughs"?  Well, I bet God is having himself a good time with me!  In all seriousness, I do believe that everything happens for a reason.  Obviously, God's plan for my life was a lot different than mine, but isn't that usually the case?  Now, I'm just going to have fun trying to figure out exactly what that plan is! :)

On a lighter note, the past four years have been a blast.  I've made some great friends and had some really fun times.  So here are a few of my favorite pics from my college years.

Me, Nicole and Beth at the Daughtry concert freshman year.
My freshman Bible study group dressed up like old women for Halloween.
In Destin at Calvary's college ministry's spring retreat
Trip to the ATL for Beth and Nicole's birthdays
I had to borrow this pic from the internet.  I was sitting under the scoreboard so I never got a good pic.  The scoreboard says Alabama - 36 Auburn - 0 (in case you can't see it).  ROLL TIDE!

Me + Pinterest=Love

As you probably guessed from the title, my newest obsession is Pinterest! It is the most amazing website ever!  Don't worry if you've never heard of it, because I'm going to tell you all about it!  :)

I am always stumbling across inspiration on the internet.  I usually either bookmark the page or save the image to my computer, but both ways result in clutter.  Then I found Pinterest and voila, problem solved!   Pinterest.com lets you create your own inspiration boards and virtually pin stuff you like on them.  You can either upload your own picture or repin someone else's picture to your boards.  It's a little bit like twitter, because you can follow people to see what they are pinning on their boards.  Fair warning...it's a little bit addictive!  I spend hours just looking at the fun ideas other people post.  So, if you like pretty things and clever ideas, then you will LOVE Pinterest!

Here are just a few of the awesome things I found on Pinterest today!

I love this print!  You can buy it at etsy.com

I'm kind of obsessed with these necklaces from EmersonMade.  Each one has a different positive saying on it in Latin.  My favorite is the dragonfly.  It says "aut viam inveniam aut faciam" or "I shall either find a way or make a way."

Last but not least...
How cute is this watermelon "cake"???
Now can you see why I'm so addicted?  Oh, I almost forgot!  You have to be invited to join, so if anyone wants an invite just let me know your e-mail address!  You can check out my boards here http://pinterest.com/jjfoley/.  Just remember that they are still a work in progress!

Silhouette SD update:  still waiting and becoming very impatient!

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

Hi!  So, apparently I've become a creative person.  This is probably really shocking to everyone who knows me.  I was the kid in high school that made an A+ in calculus and a B in art...haha.  But, the other day I found this:
(Borrowed from http://attemptingcreative.blogspot.com/)
and thought it was the coolest thing ever (except for the fact that it's Auburn).  I decided that I just had to have one with the Alabama fight song.  So, I found this Subway Art Tutorial on the same blog and figured that it didn't look that difficult, all I needed was a cricut :).

After some research, I found the Silhouette SD.

It's like a cricut, except it hooks up to your computer and doesn't use any cartridges.  It comes with free software that allows you to either download images from the online library for $0.99 or use any image available to you on the internet.  It's a bit pricier than the cricut, but I think it will be cheaper in the long run since you don't have to buy cartridges for it.

Somehow I was able to convince my Mom that we needed one at our house (thanks Mom!), and now I'm just sitting around waiting for it to get here (hence the title).  So, yeah I'm pretty excited about it.  I feel confident that everything in our house will be monogrammed before too much longer :)

Back to my subway art idea...I've been playing around with the layout in Word and realized that it's going to be a little trickier than I thought.  Apparently Yea Alabama has way more words than the Auburn fight song.  They had to keep Auburn's really short so that the fans could remember the words (sorry I just couldn't help myself haha).  But, I'm sure after playing around with it some more, I'll be able to make it work.  I just need my Silhouette to get here!  I'll keep you posted on how my artwork goes!

I"m Kinda New at This...

I finally started a blog!  I've kinda wanted to for a while, but I didn't think I really had anything to say since my life is kinda boring...haha.  But, now I just have way to much time on my hands, and I figured why not!  I don't really know what's gotten into me lately, because I got a twitter account and started a blog (two things I said I never wanted to do)!  Oh well, I also said I'd never move back to Opp, AL and here I am :).

So, y'all (yes I say y'all I'm from Alabama) are probably wondering what's up with the name High Heels and Honeysuckles...right?  Well, anyone who knows me will probably understand.  I am a self-proclaimed shopaholic and own way too many pairs of shoes (if there was such a thing as too many).  On the opposite end of the spectrum, I am a just a country girl at heart.  I grew up in the middle of nowhere and LOVED the smell of honeysuckles in the summer.  So, I thought it would be fun to just stick two things that I love together and call it a title...haha.

Since this is my first post and all, I guess I should tell you guys a little about myself.  So, here are 10 random facts all about me!

1.  I am a University of Alabama alumni
2.  I am deathly terrified of birds (don't judge me, it's a phobia)
3.  I think The Office is the greatest show ever made (don't even try to argue with me)
4.  I love tennis and I'm dying to go to Wimbledon one day
5.  My sister and I have a cat named Raymond or Ray Earl (aka our little brother haha)
6.  I am awesome at dominoes
7.  I LOVE Alabama football!  Roll Tide!
8.  I have a math minor (yes I'm a math nerd)
9.  I am an online shopaholic (I really have a problem)
10.  My all time favorite place to eat is Iguana Grill in Tuscaloosa (I heart margaritas)
